Salt Guide to Practical Holiness

Job

"AND THE LORD SAID UNTO SATAN, HAST THOU CONSIDERED

MY SERVANT JOB, THAT THERE IS NONE LIKE HIM IN THE

EARTH, A PERFECT AND AN UPRIGHT MAN, ONE THAT

FEARETH GOD, AND ESCHEWETH EVIL?" Job 1:8

____________________________________________________________

1:20 THEN JOB AROSE, AND RENT HIS

MANTLE, AND SHAVED HIS HEAD, AND

FELL DOWN UPON THE GROUND, AND

WORSHIPPED, 21. AND SAID, NAKED

CAME I OUT OF MY MOTHER'S WOMB, AND

NAKED SHALL I RETURN THITHER: THE

LORD GAVE, AND THE LORD HATH TAKEN

AWAY; BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE

LORD. 22. IN ALL THIS JOB SINNED

NOT, NOR CHARGED GOD FOOLISHLY.

The test of true holiness is reaction to

adversity.

"It was a shrewd remark of Andrew Fuller,

that a man has only as much religion as he

can command in trial."

"Submission to Divine arrangements [provi-

dence] is the highest test of obedience."

2:3 AND THE LORD SAID UNTO SATAN,

HAST THOU CONSIDERED MY SERVANT JOB,

THAT THERE IS NONE LIKE HIM IN THE

EARTH, A PERFECT AND AN UPRIGHT MAN,

ONE THAT FEARETH GOD, AND ESCHEWETH

EVIL? AND STILL HE HOLDETH FAST HIS

    INTEGRITY, ALTHOUGH THOU MOVEDST ME

AGAINST HIM, TO DESTROY HIM WITHOUT

    CAUSE.

The book of Job has been avoided by the

average Christian because there is the

feeling that Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar was

giving bad advice and therefore not worthy of

much regard. These three "comforters" had

some good advice, but they had applied it all

to the wrong man. We would be wise to quote

them more often and treat much of their

advice with more respect.

They teach us;

JOB SALT GUIDE TO PRACTICAL HOLINESS ____________________________________________________________ 1. That waiting seven days in meditation before the Lord doesn't necessarily make one infallible. 2. You can be righteous and wrong. 3. You can be easily wrong when you judge only by what is visible. 4. That being absolutely sure of your righteousness and speaking with opinion can injure both yourself and the one needing healing. 5. That there are exceptions in every case to be judged; that there are different sets of circumstances in each troubled life, and that one pat formula does not apply to all. " 'Show us a perfect man!' Consider Job. God Perfection pronounced him 'perfect.' Will you contradict God? Better 'mark the perfect Job man' for your association and imitation, pleasure and profit." *1 8:20 BEHOLD, GOD WILL NOT CAST AWAY A PERFECT MAN, NEITHER WILL HE HELP THE EVIL DOERS: 15:16 HOW MUCH MORE ABOMINABLE AND FILTHY IS MAN, WHICH DRINKETH INIQUITY LIKE WATER? We have developed a very high tolerance for sin. 24:2 SOME REMOVE THE LANDMARKS; THEY Fathers VIOLENTLY TAKE AWAY FLOCKS, AND FEED THEREOF. ========================== *1 THOMPSON, PEPPER, Daily Holiness Textbook 28:28 AND UNTO MAN HE SAID, BEHOLD, THE FEAR OF THE LORD, THAT IS WISDOM; AND TO DEPART FROM EVIL IS UNDERSTANDING. Not sin, but evil. Evil is often in the form Influence Evil of innocent fun, influence - but it leads to sin! The Holy Spirit has come to keep us from more than sin, but the evils that corrupt and lead to sin.
